What A Waste!

I’m going to start this post by saying it will not be a WASTE of your time, I promise.
Let me begin by asking if you would go to work for a week and tell your boss not to worry about paying you for the week? “This one’s on me boss”! Now, what if you decided to turn on your kitchen faucet and just left it running for a few days? You wouldn’t complain about your high water bill would you? The chances of anyone doing any of the above are probably very slim, unless you’ve been hit in the head one too many times!
We’ve established that you would not actually work without a paycheck, and you wouldn’t just leave your faucet running because you love to pay a high water bill, right? So why would paying your electric company up to 40% too much be any different? I can tell you it’s a reality that nearly everyone is doing and many people just pay it without a second thought. WHAT A WASTE!
Now, I know everyone has a difference in opinion about many subjects but I’m sure being efficient and cost conscious with your money is a subject all of us will agree on. When most of us purchase a new, high efficiency air conditioning system (because that’s all we see in every advertisement), we are told in most cases to expect to save money on our utility bills. However, the dirty little secret you were not told about was the condition of your duct work.
The Department of Energy (D.O.E.) states that 30 to 40 percent of the air traveling through your duct work leaks. These leaks are pulling dirty air from your attic into your living space and can cause multiple indoor air quality problems. Let’s face facts. If you ignore your duct work you will continue to WASTE hundreds of dollars month after month and thousands of hard earned dollars year after year.
I’ve provided a link to a SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) Bulletin which contains some eye-opening facts. Remember, your home is not under lab conditions, however without the proper care for your duct work you will turn your living space into a laboratory with all the pollutants being pulled into your home through your leaking duct system.
So please do yourself a favor and don’t waste your hard-earned money spending more on your electric bill. Please read the previous post on Artieseal for cost effective ways to repair and seal your ductwork.
