Emergency Drain Cleaning
Reading Time: 3 minutes

No homeowner likes the sound of needing an emergency drain cleaning service; all sorts of bad things come to mind. The good news is that there are some common signs to look out for that could mean you’re headed for an emergency drain cleaning and there are experts on standby to solve the problem.

Sure, plumbing problems can cause major issues for your household if not taken care of, but the great thing about the professionals at Art Rooter, Sewer & Drain Cleaning is that we offer emergency services at any hour, regardless of the situation you find yourself in.

Signs You Need Emergency Drain Cleaning

We want to point out that drain “clearing” and drain “cleaning” are two different services.

Emergency drain clearing refers to a specific blockage or a clog in your plumbing system that a plumber will release so your system can flow as normal. Drain cleaning will fully flush out the plumbing system. Simply put, it’s a thorough cleaning of the contents of your pipes, which is sometimes necessary if you’ve had multiple attempts at drain clearing.

Let’s look at the signs that your plumbing system needs emergency drain cleaning.

Water Back-Ups

Water backflow occurs when the water pipes return the water back to where it came from. This is often caused by a sudden change in the water flow and it reverses the water back up the drain.

A sewer backflow is one of the worst kinds of backflow that can occur. Dirty water and gunk that should be flowing away from your home instead returns back to your kitchen or your bathroom sinks. Because the water is traveling in the wrong direction, it tends to overflow on the other end with no signs of stopping.

A clog is a general starting point of a water back-up which gets so bad that water can no longer travel through the pipe at all. If a clog is causing the water backup, there might be a mineral buildup or a waste buildup that could affect the rest of your property. Your kitchen and bathroom plumbing are an important part of your home, as is your drainage system. If you find yourself with clogged kitchen plumbing, don’t delay in having it fixed. We’d consider this an emergency.

Bad Odors

Bad smells coming from your drains, toilets, or sewers are one of the first, if not obvious indicators that something isn’t right within your pipes.

It’s common for drains to have some smells because of the various types of foods and waste they’re exposed to. But if you smell something worse than normal, it often indicates that there is a blockage causing waste to get stuck along the way. This build up is unhygienic for your home’s inhabitants as well as having the potential to damage your pipes that could end up costing you in the long run.

If the noxious smell is coming from a multitude of drains, that means the blockage has affected a larger area of your plumbing system. You may need a drain or sewer repair but you won’t know until you’ve called in the experts.

Discolored, Cloudy Water

You should be seeing clear water when you turn your faucet on and if you don’t, there is most likely a problem with drainage.

Yellow or brown water could mean that there is too much iron in the water. Blue or green colored water could be a result of corroded copper pipes. The bottom line is that discolored or cloudy looking water is not safe to use and it shouldn’t be ignored.

Pooling Water

If you’re seeing water in places where it shouldn’t be, it means that there is a clog somewhere along the line and water has not been able to drain effectively.

If there is water around your toilet base, around the sink base, or in the shower when it’s not on, you might need your drains cleaned, and urgently. If there appears to be water damage in any areas such as the ceiling of your home, it’s an indication that there is a bigger, more serious problem.
